HiMama has compiled a list of the best child care centers in Baton Rouge based on the Quality Start Child Care Rating System for Louisiana.

During our research process, we found that there was change in center licensing classification effective Summer 2015.

Here is a diagram to clarify the differences between center Types and Classes as the distinction can be slightly confusing:

All centers on this list are center-based and licensed with at least four programs serving Infant, Toddler, Preschool and Kindergarten with the appropriate ratios. This is because we believe in the importance of a stable environment and familiarity with educators for early childhood development.

We have included a brief overview of the Quality Start Model for clarity:

  • 1 star – The center has met the higher standards of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services Child Care Licensing and Regulatory Section
  • 2 stars – When the center has been in operation for at least 6-months and staff has received additional training
  • 3 – 5 stars – The center provides quality child care based on staff training, qualifications and the Environment Rating System
